Do you have a broken VCR, a fried computer, a broken printer, your kids’ old handheld games, old phones, or other unwanted electronic devices sitting around your house? You’re not alone – we all do! If they’re no long usable, dispose of them properly by taking them to the FREE Electronics Waste Collection at the Peninsula Town Center on Saturday March 5th from 8 a.m. to 5 p.m.
Friendly volunteers will direct you to the unloading zone, unload the electronics from your car, and give you a bag of information about other opportunities to be green. You’ll be on your way, feeling good because you did the right thing by recycling these electronic items. PS – if your electronics are still usable, consider donating them to a good cause!
Any citizen or business can bring electronics to this collection. Among the items accepted are: amplifiers, audiovisual equipment, camcorders, CD players, cell phones, computer mice, computers, copiers, digital cameras, DVD players, fax machines, game consoles, microwaves, monitors, MP3 players, old electronic “stuff” (cables, networking hardware), radios, CB radios, record players, power tools, printers and scanners, remote controls, speakers, telephones, televisions, and even toasters!
Businesses that have more than a pickup truck load of electronics to recycle can call Synergy Recycling for a separate pickup through March 19th. Contact the company at 919-619-4856 or This e-mail address is being protected from spambots. You need JavaScript enabled to view it .
This event is sponsored by Cox Conserves with the help of Synergy Recycling, Peninsula Town Center, and the clean community offices of Williamsburg, Newport News, James City County, York County, and Hampton.
The goal of Cox Conserves is to reduce Cox Communication’s annual carbon footprint companywide 20 percent by 2017. Cox’s efforts are expected to save 172,000 tons of greenhouse gas emissions annually, which is equivalent to the pollution produced by providing power to 26,000 homes.
