Planned Parenthood, VBDPH, Urban League Team Up for National HIV Testing Day The three organizations provided free STI/HIV testing to almost 50 individuals on June 29
[Hampton Roads, Va.] — Planned Parenthood of Southeastern Virginia partnered with the Virginia Beach Department of Public Health and the Urban League of Hampton Roads to provide free STI/HIV testing on June 29. Held at Planned Parenthood’s Newtown health center, free testing for Gonorrhea, Chlamydia, Syphilis and HIV was performed for almost 50 individuals in the span of just 4 hours.
“We were absolutely thrilled with the turnout for our free testing event,” said Erin Zabel, Planned Parenthood spokeswoman. “Most STIs have no signs or symptoms and people have no idea they’re infected. We now have a number of individuals who will know their status and how to take precautions against STI and HIV infection in the future.”
Hampton Roads currently has some of the highest STI rates in the state, and some of the highest rates of all metropolitan areas nationwide. It is imperative that we provide convenient, affordable avenues for testing and treatment to address these alarmingly high rates of infection.
