Frontier Airlines returns to Patrick Henry airport March 1st. Beginning May 22nd, Frontier will offer service 7 days per week through the summer months. The 7 day service will enable Frontier to compete with Norfolk International Airport for military and government contractor flight contracts. Currently, because they serve Newport News only part-time, the carrier is not able to compete. The new contract between Newport News and Frontier Airlines is a 14 month extension of the original agreement. The new contract runs from March 1, 2012 through April 30, 2013. Frontier offers non-stop flights to Denver. Here is the wording of the motion passed Friday morning: A Motion to amend the current Transportation Services Incentive Agreement, dated April 30, 2010, between Frontier Airlines and the Economic Development Authority of the City of Newport News, Virginia, as fiscal agent for the Regional Air Services Enhancement Committee (RAISE), to extend the term of the orihinal agreement for a 14 month period beginning March 1, 2012 through April 30, 2013, and increase the level of service effective May 22, 2012 to 7 (seven) days per week, with the Amended and Restated Transportation Services Incentive Agreement subject to legal counsel and review and approval.
RAISE money comes from the local communities.
